Our Beginning Lampwork Art Beadmaking Program consists of four classes. Each class is 1-1/2 hours long, and limited to 3 students. Instruction fee is $45 per class, which covers the use of our studio, professional equipment, glass rods, safety glasses, kiln annealing of student beads, and the most successful and comprehensive lampworking education available in the Kansas City area. Students keep all beads they make in class.
Class 1 – Basic Beadmaking: Soft Glass, Round Beads
Learn the basics of using oxygen/propane torch equipment to make Lampwork Art Beads.
Working with glass rods, compatibility, COE, shock, stress, and kiln annealing of glass beads will be covered.
Students will learn and practice the fundamental techniques necessary to make round beads.
Class 2 - Dots and Lines: Color Stripe, Melted Dot Beads
Continue developing fundamental skills.
Students will learn how to decorate baskic round beads by adding dots and drawing lines.
Class 3 - Raised Surface Decoration: Stringers & Bumpy Beads
Add heat control to your skills.
Students will learn how to pull stringers and create raised surface decorations by making "Bumpy" Beads.
Class 4 - Shaping with Tools: Shaping, Marvering, Flame Polishing, Tube Beads
Expand your skills beyond the basic round shape.
Students will learn toolworking techniques by making tube- and irregular-shaped beads.
Torch Time is available and recommended for students to practice skills between each class.
Torch Time includes the use of our commercial glass torch equipment, fuel, oxygen, safety glasses & tools.
Kiln annealing of finished beads is also included.
Advanced Private Lessons are also available by appointment.
These courses offer in-depth instruction on creating floral beads;
dichroic beads; borosilicate beads, pendants and sculptures.
Prior completion of the beginner instruction series is required.
